The more stringers(chines) you use, the more exactly one can replicate the shape you are looking for. If you think about it, strip built kayaks take this to the extreme, with very small spaces between each stringer.

The question with SOF, is how few stringers you can get away with to get what you want. If what you want is an exact hull shape, then more is better (for a rounded hull) . . . but if you are just trying to recreate the handling characteristics of that rounded hull, then you can generally get that with fewer stringers.

There is nothing wrong with going one way or the other, or with a compromise between the two, but for every pair of stringers that you add, the weight, complexity, cost and build time all go up . . . which is kind of the opposite of what a lot of people are trying to accomplish by building in SOF.
