Yep and he is lucky that the air went to his shoulders. It's when it goes to your feet thatyou get in trouble. Your legs become so buoyant that you can't get vertical and you are stuck floating on you back which makes many rescue techniques very difficult.

50 Fahrenheit is our salt water temps during the summer. Although sometimes it does go to 55 at the peak of our warm season. Right now it is about 33. Drysuits are a year round piece of gear up here.

Cold water often does not get the respect it deserves. But, given the chance, it will kill you.
