I should point out that I have a commercially produced control box that I have retrofitted for use with a cable - it was initially designed for a self-retracting skeg and used a Spectra line for control.

The knob is held in place by the box, so it can slide along without popping out of the box "runner" so to speak. So, in other words the cable will always be pushed/pulled in a perfectly straight line.

I hope this makes sense!!
