Good idea John, I am toying with a similar idea but making the fitting and deck hole slightly oblong shape so the fitting can be inserted through the hole and pulled back against the hull. May be more work than I want to put into this particular boat. I am thinking of the needed router patterns for the fitting and the deck hole. If I go that route I may as well do 'bang-up' patterns and try the look on the next boat. The oblong shape could work as a sort of "entry/exit" for the deck lines so they don't have to make such steep turns - just thinking . . . . I try to operate on the old adage - "the mark of a true craftsman is how well they cover their mistakes . . . "
