I wouldn't recommend the weep holes. If you are worried about a little moisture inside when you assemble the paddle, you could always put one of those little silaka(sp?) bags that come in your shoe boxes and such inside the shaft. They are designed to absorbe moisture and if the inside is coated with epoxy, then you shouldn't have any coming from inside the wood. It would be a small amount that was trapped in the air. Good luck on the paddle and post some pics when your done.
