I rounded the shaft this morning and except for some small gaps in a few places the joints look pretty good , vinyl tape in the hot sun wasn't the best setup. (hose clamps.. gotta write that down! )Or at least reinforced fiber tape. actually the the stiffness is pretty good for cedar I'll try it the way it is, If I had some lighter cloth I would do the outside also and get some ding resistance to boot....you could then go with thinner strips say 3/16" I don't know how thin you could go before you start losing the self aligning properties, which work great! ....more test pieces. I preassembled most of the shaft and tacked it in several places along each joint on the outside with hot glue before dropping in the gooey glass covered innertube thingy and then installed the last three strips, I cut a few "U" shaped scraps of plywood and screwed them to the sides of my saw horses which aided the assembly, I don't have much working time with fast hardener in this long awaited heat. Gotta go clean up the shop so I can mess it up some more. Good luck
